The Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury, has announced a range of additional changes to the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme (EEIS) which will also be extended to 2030. The EEIS was previously expected to run until 2020 but has been given the green-light for an additional 10-year extension to 2030. Shane Rattenbury announced a range of additional changes to the EEIS.

The program will:

– Incentivise transitions from natural gas to efficient electric heating and hot water systems.

– Introduce a new rebate offered by ActewAGL, through the EEIS, to encourage households to replace central ducted gas heating with energy-efficient electric reverse cycle air conditioning.

– Be expanded to ensure 1 in 3 households are taking part in the scheme by 2020.

– Continue to pursue future energy-efficiency innovative initiatives in the transport sector.
